Meet Ms. Dykstra
Ms. Dykstra divides her time between the elementary and junior/senior high school buildings. This year she is spending most of her time at NBJH/HS. However, she is still working on several projects with elementary teachers and students. Ms. Dykstra also oversees library operations for both libraries and has the task of collection development and processing for both libraries.
Ms. Dykstra was born and raised in Grandville, MI. She attended Calvin College where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Ms. Dykstra spent five years working just outside the Navajo Reservation of New Mexico as the librarian at Rehoboth Christian School. During that time, she earned her Master's Degree in Information Resources and Library Science at the University of Arizona. Ms. Dykstra has been the District Librarian for New Berlin Schools since the 2011-2012 school year. Ms. Dykstra has taken several graduate classes on various educational topics beyond her Master's Degree. Ms. Dykstra has a special interest in STEM and works to build the makerspace at NBJH/HS. She also teaches Makers and Digital Citizenship classes to junior high students. In addition, she coaches the junior high scholastic bowl team.
In her free time, Ms. Dykstra loves to visit her family in Michigan. She has two nieces and two nephews to spoil! Ms. Dykstra also enjoys spending time with her 3 dogs, Milo, Snookie, and Serena and an ornery cat named Max. Ms. Dykstra's dogs compete in agility, barnhunt and nosework, and their competitions keep her very busy. She also volunteers and fosters with the Animal Protective League in Springfield to help homeless animals find "furever" homes.
